Tetebatu
Central Lombok · ~1.5–2 hr from Kuta · ~55 km

Overview
Tetebatu is a quiet village set in the foothills on the southern flanks of Mount Rinjani, and it feels a world away from the coast. Sitting at a higher elevation, the air is noticeably cooler and fresher, and the landscape is a patchwork of terraced rice paddies, tobacco fields and small forests. It’s the kind of place people come to slow down, walk among the fields and breathe.
Things to do
- Stroll or cycle through the rice terraces, greenest in the wetter months.
- Walk to one of the nearby foothill waterfalls through farmland and forest.
- Look for grey long-tailed macaques in the monkey forest area.
- Visit a local tobacco-drying barn or small farm to see rural Sasak life up close.
How to get there
From Kuta, the drive up to Tetebatu takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, climbing gradually inland and uphill away from the coast. We collect you at your Kuta hotel or villa, and the final stretch winds through villages and fields, so a calm, unhurried drive is part of the experience.
A recommended day
- Drive up from the coast in the morning while it’s cool.
- Take a guided walk through the rice terraces and to a waterfall.
- Stop for lunch at a warung with valley views.
- Spend the afternoon at an easy pace before heading back down.
Why book a private driver
The roads up to Tetebatu are scenic but winding, and the village’s best spots are spread across farmland tracks. A private driver handles the climb in an air-conditioned car, waits while you walk the terraces, and can pair Tetebatu with a waterfall or a craft village on the way. You get local knowledge, flexible timing and no roadside negotiating.
