Tiu Kelep Waterfall
North Lombok · ~3–3.5 hr from Kuta · ~120 km

Overview
Tiu Kelep is one of Lombok’s most spectacular waterfalls, hidden in the rainforest near the village of Senaru on the northern slopes of Mount Rinjani. Fed by the mountain, it spills in a wide, misty curtain into a pool you can swim in. It usually shares a visit with nearby Sendang Gile waterfall, reached from the same trailhead, making the area a classic north-Lombok day out.
Things to do
- Hike the forest trail to Tiu Kelep, crossing streams along the way.
- Stop at Sendang Gile, the more accessible falls near the same entrance.
- Cool off with a swim in the plunge pool beneath Tiu Kelep.
- Take in the views around Senaru, a gateway village for Rinjani treks.
How to get there
The north is the farthest of these destinations from Kuta. From Kuta, plan on roughly 3 to 3.5 hours, much of it a scenic drive up the coast and into the hills — we pick you up early at your Kuta hotel or villa to make the most of the day. From Senaru, a local guide is usually arranged at the trailhead for the walk to the falls, which involves uneven paths and stream crossings.
A recommended day
- Leave early — it’s a long drive north.
- Reach the Senaru trailhead and walk first to Sendang Gile.
- Continue on the trail to Tiu Kelep for a swim.
- Rest and eat in Senaru before the drive back.
Why book a private driver
Tiu Kelep is a long haul from the south, on roads that climb and wind through the hills. A private driver makes the round trip comfortable in an air-conditioned car, sets off early so you beat the day-trip crowds, and waits at the trailhead while you hike. With a long driving day, having someone who knows the route and rest stops makes all the difference.
